Easily one of my favourite parts of the country – Western Australia was freedom to me. Wide open roads, endless oceans, stunning, vast landscapes. The possibilities were endless. One day you could be sand boarding on sand dunes and the next you could be swimming with whale sharks.
I can’t recommend it enough to leave Perth and actually hire a car or a van and road trip up towards Darwin. It was one of the best trips of my life and I’m so lucky I got to do it with an amazing group of people.
Fremantle & more of Western Australia
We watched dolphins swim up to the shore, we swam with manta rays, we saw eagles soar through the skies and don’t get me started on the kangaroos. It was the ultimate Australian road trip.
Starting in Fremantle, the cutest little seaside town, it was the perfect little hippie spot to start the trip. Don’t forget to visit Rottnest Island and see the quokkas! Later we stopped in Lancelin and Jurien Bay, explored Kalbarri National Park. Before it was up to Coral Bay, Ningaloo, Cape Range National Park and Exmouth.
National parks and camping wild
Then it was inland towards Karijini National Park – one of the best national parks in Australia for amazing swimming holes and rock climbing hikes. After we went up to 80 Mile Beach, Broome, and eventually on towards Darwin via Litchfield National Park. A pretty epic journey that took around a month of living out of cars, cooking our meals on camping stoves, bush poos, and a lot of fun!
