Europe Travel Itineraries

Best Things to See
& Do in Europe

Even after Brexit, we are so lucky to have Europe right on our doorstep. Its vibrant cities, endless coastline and beautiful countryside means there’s a travel option to suit all. The availability of budget flights and (if you shop around) great purse-friendly accommodations to suit every budget. Over the years I’ve backpacked across Europe, road tripped and camped wild, I’ve also enjoyed weekend city breaks in Europe and longer holidays and trips with family, friends and partners. It’s a great place to travel solo or with the ones you love, experiencing a myriad of different cultures and foods along the way.

Some of my favourite things to do in Europe include road trips across Europe, wine tours in Italy and Christmas markets in Germany. Book city breaks in Prague, Milan, Bucharest, or plan lazy summer holidays on the beaches of Greece, Portugal and Montenegro. A highlight was visiting Liechtenstein – the 6th smallest country and exploring the Eastern European countryside. I’ll never forget camping by lakes and mountains in Austria and Switzerland and visiting spectacular national parks in Germany. And of course, we can’t forget European music festivals.

Solo Female Travel
in Europe

Dreaming of planning a solo trip? Europe is a great place to try your first foray into the world of solo female travel. Not only is it nice and close to home so you can easily plan a weekend break to try it out, but there are so many different places to explore. I’ve previously had solo European city breaks to Amsterdam, Bucharest, Budapest and felt really safe and loved exploring and travelling solo. I’ve always managed to meet people and loved doing walking tours as a way of learning about and exploring a new place. I’d highly recommend solo trips in Europe, even if you prefer to head into nature, hike mountains, take a road trip or laze on European beaches. MY top tips for staying safe when travelling solo in Europe:
1
Trust your gut – my number 1 rule. If something feels off, leave the situation!
2
Never arrive anywhere late at night, it will instantly feel dodgy.
3
Research hostels & accommodations – always read the reviews.
4
If you feel nervous, check in with friends / family nightly and send them your location.
5
Talk to people! Don’t let yourself feel isolated. Make friends and form a group.

How Much Does It Cost to Travel Europe?

Accommodation

Costs can really vary across Europe and it’s a good idea to bear this in mind when planning your travels. If you’re on more of a budget, look at countries in Eastern Europe and plan a city break in Budapest or Bucharest. Staying in hostels or finding a cheap Airbnb is the best way to go for cheaper accommodation. Or, if you’ve got more money to spare, why not book into a quirky boutique hotel? You can expect to pay around £10-20 per night at a hostel depending on where you go, while hotels could start from £40 a night.

Food

You can eat super cheaply across Europe if you avoid the tourist traps and instead wander the backstreets or follow the locals. Don’t go to the busiest areas, instead find independently owned restaurants or even delis. If you’re on a budget, check out the local markets for cheap eats and great stuff to take home and cook with.

Transportation

Always look online before you visit a city and see if they have a weekend tourist pass for the city. This often will give you cheaper travel on public transport and maybe discounts for attractions. Another great option is just to walk/cycle – not only does it save you money, but many European cities have gorgeous outdoor spaces and parks. Or, why not hire a van and drive – a road trip is always a great option!

Suggested Daily Budget

50-100 GBP / 60-120 USD (Note: This is a suggested budget assuming you’re staying in a hostel, eating out a little, cooking most of your meals, and using local transportation. Using the budget tips below, you can always lower this number. However, if you stay in fancier accommodation or eat out more often, expect this to be higher!)
