Less than 24 hours after touching down back in the UK after another amazing weekend in Hamburg, I had some pretty amazing news. Some of you may remember I recently announced my plans to move to Germany? Well it turns out that after we viewed a flat at the weekend, we were offered one just down the street which is bigger and even cheaper than the one we had looked at! It's perfect for us and we snapped it up - so now my four week countdown is on and I can't wait to make Hamburg my official new home. Ahead of the move, I teamed up with Come to Hamburg to explore this amazing city over Easter weekend and to really get to know the place I will soon call home. Planning a weekend of sightseeing and lots of fun activities, it made perfect sense for us to stay in the city, so the lovely team at Come to Hamburg organised for us to stay in the 4* luxury of the Hotel Baseler Hof, right on the Esplanade in downtown Hamburg.A luxury stay in the heart of Hamburg with the Hotel Baseler Hof | GermanyHaving visited the city before, I was excited to be staying right in the heart of the city this time, a perfect base for everything we had planned over the weekend. One thing I really loved about the Hotel Baseler Hof is that it is privately owned, making it one of the last large, family-owned hotels in Hamburg. As someone who always does her best to support independent traders and local businesses, it was a real treat to stay in a hotel that had a history spanning more than a century and offered a more personal experience than a larger chain. Stepping into the lobby to the sight of a roaring fire and just a touch of grandeur, we were greeted by the friendly staff and welcomed to the hotel. I think I would best describe the hotel's style as comfortable luxury, aiming for a high class level of comfort rather than showy displays. This is easily matched by the wonderful staff who do everything in their power to give you the best possible stay.A luxury stay in the heart of Hamburg with the Hotel Baseler Hof | GermanyWe were staying in a Superior Room which is a huge space with a double bed, bath and shower, a lovely big desk surrounded by windows, and even a small balcony. It was a really lovely room, we were really impressed at how spacious the room was and how light it was, previously I've found some city hotels can be a bit cramped. It was great to have a small balcony to get some fresh air - although it snowed while we were there, so perhaps a little too fresh! I particularly enjoyed having a nice glass of red wine and watching the snow shortly after we arrived, and then later getting ready to go out for dinner in the dreamy bathroom. The hotel describes itself as "a small retreat oasis in the hustle and bustle of the city" and I couldn't agree more, it was a perfect place to find some peace and get some rest after a day exploring the busy streets. One thing I wasn't too keen on was the bed - which was actually two singles rather than a double - mainly because I'm the kind of gal who likes to sleep diagonally across the bed. But the retractable black-out shutters on the windows made sure I had the dreamiest sleep ever.A luxury stay in the heart of Hamburg with the Hotel Baseler Hof | GermanyOne thing I love, if I'm staying in a hotel, is getting a good breakfast in the morning and the Hotel Baseler Hof had one of the best hotel breakfasts I have ever had! The Kleinhuis restaurant had everything from your continental classics, to cereal, fruit and yogurt. To a huge cheese plate, fresh smoked salmon, fresh eggs, bacon and sausage. Don't let me forget the juice and fresh coffee station, and my favourite part - the pancake and waffle bar. If you fancy a really good start to the day, I can't think of a better one than waking up after a good night's sleep and eating a huge breakfast. Even better when the hotel has great amenities such as a gym and sauna, and even a wine bistro stocking over 200 wines. Heading out into the city? Right on your doorstep are the Alster, shopping malls and museums, theatre, opera, and much more within a few minutes walking distance.

A huge thanks to the team at the Hotel Baseler Hof and Come to Hamburg for organising our stay, and for making it the best it could possibly be. If you would like to find out more about the Hotel Baseler Hof, or booking your stay, visit the website here.
