Trying new cuisines is one of the greatest things about travelling and there are places all around the globe that are famous for their culinary heritage. Italy is famous for its pizzas, Asia is heralded for its rich and diverse food culture and the French are often considered the best chefs in the world. You don’t often hear about Australia on a list of the best places to find great food but there are all sorts of amazing stuff to try. Sydney, in particular, has loads of great eateries to try but most people overlook that when they visit because they’re focused on all of the other great stuff. If you’re planning a trip to Sydney, follow this great culinary guide.

Go On A Food Trail

For beginners that haven’t explored the culinary culture in Sydney before, food and wine tours are a great introduction. Depending on what you’re interested in, you’ve got a couple of good options. If you want some traditional, hearty food and good drinks, there are some great pub tours around Sydney. If you’re after something a little fancier and you want to sample some of the great wines that Australia has to offer, the Gourmet Getaway Tours are great. One of the biggest complaints that people have about the other wine tastings is that they aren’t usually paired with good foods and you have to drive between vineyards. The Gourmet Getaway Tours solve both of those issues, giving you great food and some excellent wines all in one place.

Quick Bites

Once you’ve taken a food tour to familiarize yourself with the culture a little, you can venture out on your own. When the weather is hot, a big meal isn’t always what you want, that’s why Sydney has plenty of great places to grab a quick bite. The Monte Alto Eatery & Bar is a great place where you can get some brilliant sandwiches and pasta dishes on the cafe menu. They have a good dinner menu that serves modern twists on Australian classics with a focus on quality produce. Food trucks are also big in Sydney at the moment, the best being the Eat Art Truck. They serve a great fusion of Southern BBQ and Japanese cuisine that is quite unlike anything you’ve tried before.

Gourmet Food

In the evening when the weather is a bit cooler, you’ll be ready for something a bit more substantial. There are a load of great fine dining establishments in Sydney where you can find some of the best food in the country. LuMi Bar and Dining is the hottest restaurant in Sydney right now. They serve an interesting blend of modern Italian cuisine fused with Japanese flavors. If you’re going to go there, the best thing to get is one of the tasting menus so you can sample a bit of everything; they have a 5, 7 or 10 course meal, depending on how hungry you are. The courses are fairly small so you should be able to manage it.

Sydney is often overlooked as a great place for food but there’s so much to explore.
