When you’re trying to keep up with a fitness regime, an injury can really put a spanner in the works. If you’re out of action for a while, it’s always difficult to get back into it when you’re better. It’s also hard to stay fit while you’re injured as well. The best way to deal with an injury is to avoid getting them in the first place. Follow these simple rules and you can exercise safely without hurting yourself.

Start Out Slow

When you’re starting a new fitness regime and you’re full of motivation, it’s tempting to get out there and push yourself as hard as you can, but that’s not the way to do it if you want to avoid injury. Your body won’t be strong enough to deal with the stress of that extreme exercise and you’re likely to get injured. The best thing to do is start out with short, low impact exercise routines and gradually build yourself over the weeks. That way, you’re building the strength that you need to deal with the more intense workouts that you’ll eventually build up to.

See Doctors Sooner Rather Than Later

If you start feeling a slight twinge when you’re working out, you’ll probably ignore it but that’s not sensible. If you’re feeling regular pain, no matter how slight, it could be a sign of a problem that will eventually lead to serious injury. Often, it’s because you’re not running properly so you should see a Podiatry expert that can help you nip those problems in the bud before they get more serious. Don’t worry about feeling like you’re hassling the doctor with small problems, it’s better to do that than it is to leave it and end up hurting yourself in the future.

Get The Right Equipment

Getting all of the right equipment is important if you’re serious about working out. A lot of people think that they don’t need to spend money on running trainers etc. because they don’t make much difference but they really do. Proper shoes are particularly important because when you’re working out, your muscles and bones are being exposed to a lot of heavy impacts. A good pair of shoes is designed to absorb a lot of that impact and reduce the stress on your body. If you’re serious about getting in shape, you need to invest a bit of money in the right equipment.

Take Rest Days

When you’re really serious about getting fit and you’ve got the motivation, you’ll want to just keep going as hard as possible but if you do that, your body is going to burn out. If you don’t give your muscles time to repair themselves, you’re just asking to get an injury. As a general rule, you shouldn’t be exercising for more than 3 days in a row without taking a rest day. Even if you are doing 3 days in a row, you shouldn’t be doing high intensity exercises on all of those days.

If you don’t look after yourself while you’re exercising and you overwork yourself, you’re bound to get an injury.
